"Egypt in Washington 1" was made by compositing two images that I captured on a trip to my hometown of Washington, D.C. in the autumn of 2005. The Egyptian urn was photographed in front of the Scottish Rite Temple on 16th Street. The cloud field was photographed on the plane trip to D.C. The piece was printed onto a textured, iridescent pearl InkAid coating on 20 oz. copper.
This image expresses the fact that ancient culture is in open view for any who have the mindset and eyes to see it. This was apparent in D.C. when viewing the Egyptian symbols on many federal government buildings, the Washington Monument (based on an Egyptian design) and the meridian line on 16th Street.
